I want the ripples of my music to bring light to female musicians from around the world that compose, play ancient instruments and sing in their native language.
I play the Kora, a 21 string harp - lute from West Africa. As the storytellers of West Africa (Griots) shared the history of their people through music with the Kora for 70 generations, I would like to take you on a journey through the 21 strings of this harp, and how I´ve become a reflection of the world, as a female storyteller. Singing in Haitian Creole, the native language of my family enables me to be even more connected to the musical storytelling tradition of my ancestors. I also sing in Spanish and English to make a connection with the listener, at various angles. Composing original music, a fusion of world, classical, soul and jazz music. I am one of few women to play this instrument professionally. The Kora, is an instrument that was only played by men for the last 7 centuries. Only a few women of this generation are breaking barriers that have been placed centuries ago.
The vision is to complete my album Vizyon 21 (Vision) independently, in studio. Combining live instruments with a 21-piece orchestra, choir, my Kora (African Harp), my voice, Udu ceramic drum from Nigeria and guest musicians to incorporate Violin, Bass Guitar, Congas and piano for particular tracks.
